10.28.13 | Week 29 | Homestead Zone

Hey family!

I am sorry that I am writing back a little late today. We decided to go to the Miami Zoo since one of the members of the Elders ward got us in for free! It was a lot of fun. Then we found out that we walked a whole 4 miles....haha so much for resting;) It was worth it though. Got to experience Miami a little instead of just staying inside the home all day:) I got to feed the Giraff! It was super funny. I turned around and it licked my head. I'll send you pictures:) I also thing that was the first time that I have seen a Gator while i've been on my mission. I rememeber invisioning my mission before I got here...I thought I'd be sitting in a home teaching someone and then the gator boys would have to come and get a gator out from the pool, and then I'd be on tv. haha yeah...hasn't YET happened;) I also thought i'd knock into the kardashians too...guess i still have about 11 months right?;)

Well this week was a really good week! Sister Daines and I have so much fun together. Please continue to pray that we stay together until she goes home....in 2 transfers;) haha we could have 4 together. That's not COMPLETLY rare....haha no..we think that we will be spliting up..:( all the Elders say that I'm training. They think they know what they are talking about...;)

We have been teaching this really cool guy named Marlon. He is from Peru. Heavenly father has been giving us a lot of spanish people lately. Maybe he is preparing one of us to go into a full spanish area. Who knows! He is an entertainer though! Haha I can't wait to send you a picture of him. He's classic. Its fun to teach in spanish though! Sister Daines and I kind of missed it. We had a really cool experience with him the other day. We were trying to find someones home we could meet in to teach him, since we can't go to his home and we couldn't find anyone. The only person we could think of was Sister Baker (who is american and speaks english) We thought, ok well if it comes down to it, we can go there, and invite a member who speaks spanish over with us. Sister Baker is amazing and always willing to help, but we couldn't get a member out with us. We were so nervous the whole time. we were thinking, "oh no. They won't be able to communicate, this is going to be so awkward!" The time came, and turns out, Sister Baker surprised us with a little bit of spanish. Marlon, and Sister Baker clicked so perfectly! Her testimony in broken spanish was EXACTLY what he needed to hear. After we watched the Restoration DVD with him, we had him kneel down and pray. He got done praying and he looked up and said, "Woah. I feel so warm inside" we testified that, that was the spirit. We read Moroni 10:5 and he said, "I can get an answer that fast??" he was so schocked! He is still afraid to committing to a date, but he came to church and LOVED it. He WILL get baptized next week. It will be Sister Daines and I last
sunday together... But I know that that lesson with Sister Baker was exactly what Marlon needed. It didn't matter who it was, God made it all ok, and now Marlon will never forget that day.

President Anderson,

This week, Sister Daines and I once again saw how important God is in the work. Without him, this work would not be possible. A really cool experience happened with one of our investigators. He has a hard time waking up, but really wanted to come to church. He told us to call him an hour before and help him get up. We called and called, but no answer. We had been working with him a lot this past week, and he is really amazing. We were getting really sad because he was not answering his phone. We had no other way to help him out. As we started driving to church, Sister Daines and I said a prayer. We asked Heavenly Father to help Marlon wake up so that he could come to church. Right as Sister Daines was saying the prayer, Marlon called us. He said that we had woke him up and he was getting ready for church! I know that God really listens and answers every one of our prayers. That was so amazing to see how fast God helped us. Without God in this work things would not be possible to do.

In the Book of Mormon, I was reading in Helaman. The Nephites stop keeping the commandments, and they arent happy. They are IN the world not OF the world. It makes me realize, how important it is to do the little things. Read, pray, go to church, so that we can stay on that straight and narrow path, and never go astray.
I am learning something new every single day and I know that it is part of God's plan for me. I am so thankful for this time that I have to learn and grow such a strong relationship with my heavenly father. I wouldn't trade it for anything.

Thanks for all you do president!
Sister Rogers

This week, I got a blessing from the Elders. My energy has been really low, and I just didn't know what to do about it. I knew that I had done all I can and now I have to let God do the rest. I didn't exactly want to call the Elders, because I don't want to be one of those "needy Sister Missionaries" but Sister Daines insisted I did, because she knew how much it would help me. During the blessing, I couldn't help but cry. It reminded me of the time right before my mission when Zack gave me a blessing. I know that I have made it so far, and Heavenly Father has given me so much strength this far, he wasn't going to stop. In the blessing it mentioned, that I would have Angels round about me to help lift me up. I thought of Dad's email to me. There are ALWAYS angels around me. I guess, what I am trying to say is that I am so thankful for the priesthood. I may not have ALL the energy that I wish I had, but I have a lot of help from my Heavenly Father. I couldn't do it without him.

I love you all so much and I am so thankful for the amazing examples you are for me. I loved all the pictures that you sent me today. I am kinda sad that I missed out on pumpkin carving. Thats my favorite. It doesn't really feel like Halloween here. It is cooling down though. There have been some days that we feel like we are in Heaven haha. Still about 80 degrees. But its a lot better than 90's:) I was so glad to hear from all of you today. I am sorry that I can't email all of you back individually. If I had the time, I so would. Just know that I love you so much, and I would never reject a hand written letter every once in a while;) haha

I hope that the wedding planning is going good, and that you are all having fun planning it! I wish I could help you all out! That's so exciting:) Send me pictures! I want to see everything when it starts to get together! especially the engagement pictures:) Mikki always does such a great job:)

I hope you all have such a great week, and know that I love and miss you all!

Love, Sister Rogers
